Title Development of Large Scale Particle Image Velocimetry Prototype for the Small Stream Discharge Monitoring

Abstract The Large Scale Particle Image Velocimetry (LSPIV) has been highlighted so far for measuring small stream flow discharge in terms of their high order of accuracy and less field operators driven by their easy in-situ operation. While the LSPIV became increasingly dominant in hydrometric area, its actual measurement accuracy for surface velocity has not been sufficiently validated due to the lack of reliable benchmark data, and subsequently there are still many uncertain aspects for using the LSPIV in the natural small streams. This research aim at analyzing inter-comparison results between the LSPIV measurements with respect to the detailed ADV measurement in small streams. Three test stream basins are selected for establishing the LSPIV prototype for discharge monitoring by detailed guideline. For the two major floods occur in 2016, the ADV data are collected at densely designed grids on cross control section in the Jungsunfil-cheon. Concurrently, the ADV fixed points measurements are conducted for each 0.3m and 0.1m of horizontal and vertical spacing respectively which results are used to compare with the LSPIV measurement. The inter-comparison results indicates that the LSPIV discharge estimated on same control cross section matches the ADV discharge very accurately with 0.075 m3/s error. Error analysis for velocity of the LSPIV can be potentially able to be utilized for the more detailed uncertainty analysis of the LSPIV discharge measurement.
